We’ve been waiting for Mercedes to make steps towards the release of the baby SLS, which should use the SLC designation for quite a while and now it seems that moment is getting even further away, as the vehicle has reportedly been postponed.

Auto Motor und Sport writes that the German carmaker saw the vehicle as being too expensive to compete with the Porsche 911 and thus the vehicle is now being evaluated closer. The most likely version is that the development is still going on, but the vehicle hasn’t received the green light yet. Thus, engineers should find ways of making the model less expensive.

Initial reports showed that the Mercedes SLC was supposed to come to the market in 2014, with the vehicle expected to use a 500 hp version of AMG’s twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine.
