Mercedes Rocks the May Sales Charts

Month after month, the sales records previously achieved by Mercedes Benz keep tumbling, as the main market where the brand sells are proving to have an incredible appetite for the three-pointed star cars.

Today the Germans released their sales figures for the month of May, figures that are, compared to all other from the same months of last year, record ones. Mercedes Benz sold 108,766 passenger vehicles, a healthy increase of 7.3 percent compare to the same month of last year. That brings the total number of cars sold since the beginning of the year to 490,021, 10.5 percent more than in the same period of 2010.

The best markets for Mercedes were China, that once again broke a sales record (16,401 units, 43.1 percent increase), Germany (24,647 units, at the same level as last year) and the US (18,548 units, 1.8 percent increase). The BRIC countries accounted for the bulk of the sales.

The best-selling models in the Mercedes lineup continued to be the major sellers, the C-Klasse, the E-Klasse and the S-Klasse.

“The upswing we’ve experienced in recent months continued in May with a new sales record. Once again, growth was in particular driven by the BRIC countries,” said Joachim Schmidt, executive vice president of Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars.

“We achieved high growth rates in all of them. The strong demand for our new C-Class generation is also contributing to our dynamic development. This will also be the case with the new C-Class coupe, which hit dealerships last Saturday and has already met with an outstanding customer response.”
