Mercedes Revises Exhaust System for W02

Mercedes Grand Prix bosses have kept their promises regarding the aerodynamic package set up for this week's test in Barcelona, as the MGP W02 was seen wearing a revised exhaust system along with several other slight bodywork changes during the Wednesday running on the Circuit de Catalunya.

As reported by the online edition of Autosport earlier today, it seems that Mercedes plans to test their definitive package for the first rounds of the 2011 F1 season in stages, meaning each day will come with something new in what concerns the W02's exterior appearance.

We are taking a step-by-step approach,” Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug told the aforementioned publication. “We have a different exhaust treatment and some revised bodywork today – and there will be more changes to come.

According to the report, those new tweaks to the aerodynamic package include revised sidepods, a new-spec front wing and some further changes to the already debuted exhaust configuration. However, nothing is yet official, as the members of the Brackley based team are still keeping quiet regarding their plans for the week.

It seems everybody is looking to make the most of the exhaust system these days, as Ferrari have also debuted a new configuration of their exhaust, with the pipes directing air flow in the outer parts of the rear diffuser. Red Bull Racing have come up with a similar design their own, while Lotus Renault GP have gone for their innovative forward-facing exhaust design from the get go.
