Mercedes Not Interested in Making the A-Class Cabrio

Mercedes' MFA platform has already given us four different cars, with a possible fifth on the way.

According to a report from Car & Driver, the Germans are working on a new MFA platform model, a shooting brake version of the CLA four-door coupe, which they say will go on sale next year.

That's not surprising, considering the CLA is responsible for Mercedes' sales lead in the US. An estate model should bring much needed extra practicality and capitalize on the success of the four-door. Previous reports have also confirmed the CLA Shooting Brake is also getting the green light.

Mercedes isn't however interested in making the A-Class Cabrio, the report suggests. Executives decided against it because of concerns over profitability and volume.

Maybe this is a temporary decision, as they await the launch of more FWD premium convertibles, like BMW's rumored Z2 roadster.
