Mercedes/McLaren Split Will Not Affect Hamilton

Now that McLaren Mercedes will have to survive in the world of Formula One on their own, without the financial support of the Stuttgart based manufacturer, Lewis Hamilton insisted that this will change little things in the way he'll look at the title fight in the future.

The Brit argued that the parting ways of the two companies earlier this month will have little effect on the title fight, as both teams will be powered by Mercedes engines for the upcoming 6 years. With engine development frozen for an indefinite amount of time, the thing that'll count the most will be the aerodynamics.

In addition, costs will hopefully reach a decent level of around 50-60 million euros per season, a sum that all teams will have to work with no matter the factory support some of them might benefit from. Therefore, as long as both McLaren and Silver Arrows will have the same amount of resources for the upcoming 6 years – as stated by the new extension in the engine deal – nothing will really change in terms of McLaren's competitiveness in the series.

No, it doesn't concern us too much because until 2015 we are still getting the engines from Mercedes. And the relationship between McLaren and Mercedes will remain very good; even if I would prefer that nobody else gets the engine except us,” joked Ham. “It is definitely the best (engine) in Formula One,” continued the McLaren driver, according to Germany's Sport Bild.

In addition, the 2008 F1 champion insisted that he is in fact glad Mercedes started their own team in the series, as it preferred to stay in Formula One rather than choose the BMW-Toyota-Honda way and leave it on the back door.

My personal relationship with Mercedes has become closer over the years and I wish them all the best. And it's great news for Formula One that they are continuing like this while other manufacturers are getting out,” added Hamilton.
