Mercedes-Maybach Sedan to Offer V6, V8 and V12 Engines

Just a couple of days ago, Mercedes made the announcement we were all waiting for. The revival of the Maybach brand will take place during this month's Los Angeles Auto Show, where a special long wheelbase version of the S600 will take center stage.

While the previous Maybach models were also based on the S-Class, this time Mercedes will do things a lot differently. The design of the bodywork will not be so different and the powertrains on offer won't be that… exclusive.

What? But the S600 comes with a twin-turbo V12. What's more exclusive than that?

Except the S600 is only the beginning. Maybach will offer a total of three different sedans, including the S500 model and the S400 4Matic.

Last time we checked, the S500 came with a familiar twin-turbo V8 pumping 456 hp. However, the S400 will not be powered by a hybrid system like on the regular S-Class. Instead, it will use the twin-turbo 3-liter V6 making 333 hp, which is expected to appeal to Chinese customers.

Unlike Bentley or Aston, Mercedes doesn't want to make an uber-luxury SUV. "I don’t want to categorically rule anything out, but at this stage we have no plans for it [a Maybach SUV]," said sales chief Ola Kaellenius, according to Autonews Europe.

The Maybach man also revealed he expects to sell many more cars than the 3,000 achieved by the old company in its 10-year span. The secret seems to be affordability, or perhaps we should call it reasonableness. When full pricing information for the S600 will be revealed on December 18th, the model will be revealed as being cheaper than the old Maybach 57

These are early times for the rival of the luxury brand, but the thinking behind Maybach 3.0 sounds solid.
