Mercedes GT5 Competition Winner Gets an SLS AMG

No less than fifteen drivers from eleven nations, owners of the Gran Turismo 5 Signature Edition, recently competed in the Mercedes-Benz GT5 Driving Challenge, which took the world’s best GT5 drivers and tested them on a real track.

Of the 15 participants, the one who emerged as winner had the opportunity to take a real SLS AMG home.  The gullwing, worth $200,000, would have been awarded to the driver who gains the most points during a series of driving challenges at the event. The 6.2-litre supercar delivers 571 hp, acceleration of 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 317 km/h.

Taking the help of Bernd Schneider and David Coulthard, the 15 participants from around the world were introduced to the technology and the characteristics of the SLS AMG at the Austrian Red Bull-Ring earlier this week.

Schneider, five-time winner of the German Touring Car Championship (DTM), is well acquainted with the SLS AMG super sports car due to his role as a Mercedes-AMG Brand Ambassador. David Coulthard, the former Formula One racing driver with 13 Grand-Prix wins to his name, is currently competing in the DTM series for Team Mücke Motorsport, driving a Deutsche Post AMG Mercedes C-Klasse.

After numerous rounds of testing, the competitors drove the SLS AMG on the track to decide. Eventually, the lucky winner of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is 24 year old student Marco Calvo from Spain. Calvo currently owns a Toyota Avensis and has driven with a top speed of ‘just’ 130 km/h so far.
