Mercedes GP Scored Quickest Pit Stops in 2010

With the refueling ban introduced in the Formula One championship as of this season, it was pretty obvious that pit stop times will drop dramatically for 2010. However, even if some teams had announced some impressive pit times in the off season – some sources from within the Red Bull Racing team have suggested times in the vicinity of 2.5 seconds – the average pit stop time surpasses 4.5 seconds in each race.

Under these circumstances, the guys at Germany's Auto Motor und Sport made a short analysis on how quick the pit crews conducted themselves in the first 6 races of the 2010 season. It seems that Mercedes GP have the quickest crew members, as their average pit top time in the best from all the teams in the F1 paddock.

Although his performances this season are far from impressive, Michael Schumacher's mechanics scored fastest pit times for the German driver in China, Spain and Monaco, while Nico Rosberg recorded a perfect pit stop only in Malaysia (while in Spain, his pit crew completely blew it due to a loose wheel nut).

Second overall in the pit crew standings are the mechanics of Red Bull Racing, who were undefeated in the opening couple of rounds in 2010 – Bahrain and Australia. Both Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber benefited equally from some quick service, after which Mercedes GP took over in Malaysia.

Overall, the top 2 performances in terms of pit stops this season have been scored by Michael Schumacher in Spain (20.104) and China (21.763), while followed by his teammate Nico Rosberg in Malaysia (21.802). By comparison, the worst pit stop time this season has been scored by Nico Rosberg in Spain (37.200).
