Mercedes GP Reveal W01 Design in Valencia

Mercedes Grand Prix have finally showed the 2010 design for their new Formula One single-seater, namely the W01. Last week, the German team has been the first one to officially launch their car livery for the upcoming season of F1, during a media event held at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. During the ceremony, Mercedes GP also confirmed its lineup for the 2010 campaign.

However, the team then announced that the real car will be unveiled on the pit lane of the Valencia's Ricardo Tormo Circuit. We're not sure exactly why the Germans have decided to do that – maybe because not all the pieces of the W01 puzzle were complete – but they kept their word and Mercedes joined Renault F1, BMW Sauber F1, Williams and Toro Rosso in revealing their 2010 car in Valencia.

At first glance, Mercedes' new challenger has some different features as compared to its rivals in 2010, the first of which being its dramatic design of the front wing. Although obviously borrowing the design cues from Red Bull's RB5-like V-nose, Ross Brawn went piggyback on it and developed a much more drastic design for his W01.

Additionally, the engine cover for the W01 is not like the ones presented by McLaren Mercedes, BMW or Renault, as it features a shorter design and doesn't connect to the rear wing.

As initially reported by several media in the past, the first run with the W01 will be handed to Nico Rosberg, as the German is to take the wheel of the car during this morning's testing at Valencia. Schumacher will debut in the car either this afternoon or tomorrow morning, this being his first official test in F1 since his withdrawal at the end of the 2006 season.
