Mercedes GP Aims for Stronger 2011 F1 Campaign

All eyes (or at least the majority of them) will be Mercedes Grand Prix this season, as this is the team everybody expects to have the most important improvement curve from all F1 contenders in 2011. So their newly-developed W02 challenger must be up to that task.

Having started development of their 2011-spec car ever since midway 2010, Ross Brawn has every reason to believe Mercedes will become more dangerous in the title fight as compared to last season. Fernando Alonso said it recently and people started laughing, but we all know that when Brawn puts his mind to it, things are happening.

Talking about the upcoming campaign, it was the very Brawn that assured everyone that his team has made all the necessary adjustments through the winter and admitted his excitement over seeing his next creation on track, in Valencia.

It is always a thrill to see a new car ready to take the track for the first time and this year is no exception,” said Brawn during the launch of Merc's W02 challenger, in front of the media, in the Ricardo Tormo pit lane.

With a good technical structure and a strengthened race engineering organisation, both at the factory and the race track, I am confident that we have done and will continue to do a better job this year in all key areas.

We want to be setting the standard right from the start but if we are not, we will respond very strongly to get ourselves into the game. Everyone is excitedly waiting to see what the new season will reveal.”

With both Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher showing optimism for the 2011 F1 campaign, the team will get a glimpse of what their S02 is made of on Tuesday morning, when the group test in Valencia kicks off. Both drivers will get track time during the course of the day (Rosberg in the morning, Schumacher in the afternoon).
