Similar to history, fashion has a way to repeat itself. Yes, we know that. As opposed to the 1990s, however, these days things have a tendency to blend into each other. Fashion is art, and both mix up with marketing in quite a creative way. Mercedes-Benz is one of the automakers that enjoy coming up with experimental ideas they apply in their lifestyle branch. Their latest gig reminds us of the mid-1950s Pop art movement.
Since this entire post revolves around peculiar fashion concepts, we’ll have to share the Germans’ explanation of the gig first. It goes like this:
“For the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Campaign Spring/Summer 2016, 'Hybrid by Nature', fashion editor and stylist Carlyne Cerfe de Dudzeele created a digitally-idealized version ecological perfection that culminates in a playful encounter between natural beauty - and top model - Doutzen Kroes and the pure perfection of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Plug-In Hybrid.”
Translation: we’re looking at a somewhat experimental advertorial that combines pop art features with the classic “our car is the best” type of marketing. After all, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 350 e 4Matic comes with a combined fuel consumption of 2.6l/km while the emission stays quite low at an estimated 60g/km.
Yes, yes, but what's the point of it all? Glam meets sustainability. Or something like that.
Enough about the car though, let’s meet the blond beauty for a change. Dutch model Doutzen Kroes is far from being just a fashionista. In fact, she is a mother-of-two stunner who, as Mercedes puts it, "whenever steps in front of the camera, brightens the room with her laid-back, lively and joyful vibes”.
Are we fond of the resulting idealized blend of graphical elements and bold colors, as seen in the Mercedes-Benz fashion film? Maybe; we do like the idea of being different though.
