This year's Frankfurt Motor Show will be packed full of SUV goodness, from the Skoda Yeti facelift to a plug-in hybrid version of the BMW X5. Out of these, the most car-like will be Mercedes-Benz's GLA, a 5-door compact car based on the same MFA platform as the A-Class.
The relation between the two extends beyond the engines, the platform or the transmission. From some angles, this rival for the X1 looks like the A-Class, especially since it's not thickly clad in body armor. The shape of the rear is also very sloped, like a coupe, something we also saw on the Volvo V40 Cross Country when we met it in person.
The GLA is more high-street than dirt-street. As such, people just can't help wonder what the GLA would look like if it had only three-doors, like a Golf, a Leon or an Astra GTC, not to mention the early A-Class models. Well people, you should wonder no more, because X-Tomi Designs just released a rendering.
About a decade ago, compact crossovers with only one door on each side were quite normal. But of course Mercedes isn't going to make one any more because nothing says "this isn't premium at all" quite like squeezing behind into the back of a small car.
