Forget reviews, people just want simple drag races so they can scream "suck it" to their friends that like cars which they don't. With Clarkson gone, Top Gear have dropped the fancy metaphors and are just doing simple quarter-mile shootouts every week. So why not Autoblog too?
AOL's carboys aren't big on making glossy videos, but they have some pretty cool motors in their garage, which are sometimes put to a head-to-head test of speed and power.

BMW spent billions to develop carbon fiber reinforced plastic, a high-output 3-cylinder motor, electric torque vectoring and the lithium battery pack of the i8. So it seems kind of pointless to use it for a pure drag race. Pointless, but entertaining!

Because it doesn't have the power of a typical performance car, the i8 cannot duel with the big boys. But it's the ideal model if you want to surprise people by showing electricity is good. We've seen BMW's crazy contraption going up against monsters like the G63 AMG before. More specifically, it raced a Range Rover Sport SVR that had a supercharged V8 under its hood.

The G63 also packs a big lump, a 5.5-liter twin turbo V8 one to be precise. This $150,000 truck may be loved by all the celebrities for its boxy design, but that also puts it at a major disadvantage. Anybody who's driven a G-Class can tell you it's a brick, especially once it reaches about 70 miles per hour.

As things stand, the G63 has even less of a chance of winning than the Range Rover Sport did. Had this been a race between the i8 and the GLE 63 AMG Coupe, things might have been different.

To the victor go the spoils is what they always say. In this case, the winner features a 1.5-liter engine making 231 horsepower and some electricity pushing the total to 262 hp. It's rated by the EPA at 76 MPGe, the gas in the Mercedes will go a long way here.
