The mighty Merc from Affalterbach has just received more power. Yes, we are talking about a tuning project for the G63 AMG, which recently visited the auto shop of German firm IMSA.
Starting with the magic up front, we'll tell you that the 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8 engine has been played with. So now it delivers 730 PS and a huge torque level of 1,035 Nm (764 lb-ft). Most modern SUVs make due with half that, but we have full confidence that the G-Wagon can cope.

These numbers have been achieved using IMSA turbochargers, a complete exhaust system with downpipes, sports catalytic converter, an charge air cooler and engine map optimization.

IMSA also played with the exterior of this ride that seems to fascinate all the celebrities. The Germans have created a new cosmetic package that includes 16 individual pieces. They appear on the G63's boxy body in familiar places, like buttons on an iPhone: front grille, side mirror caps, front air inlets, hood and side skirts.

Carbon optional

The overall effect is that the Merc looks like a better version of itself, with a bit of help from 22-inch alloys wheels in 305/40 R22 tires. Some of the pieces can be ordered in carbon fiber while the next design of the exhaust offers a distinctive look.

IMSA's G63 AMG project is the complete package, as it also targets the interior. A two-tone leather interior has been crafted and also covers part of the dash and doors. It's discrete enough not to draw too much attention. Meanwhile rear center console now has buttons that control comfort features.

We're pleased to see tuners are still interested in the G63 even two years after its launch and hope the new G500 4x4 will get similar attention.
