If you weren’t impressed with what Mercedes did with the normal E-Class, the AMG will surely be the one to blow your socks off.
Not only are the 2014 model year sedan and wagon more refined, but they’re also in a class of their own in terms of performance if the claimed figures really do translate into real life performance.

The regular E63 AMG’s twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 now produces 557 PS (550 HP) and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque in stock configuration. This is because the boost for the turbos has been increased from 0.9 to 1.0 bar, and if we’re not mistaken, that basically means they’re giving you the Power Pack for free.

With this extra power, the E63 will get from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, and if you spec it with the new all-wheel drive 4MATC system, that drops to 3.7 seconds for the sedan or 3.8 for the AMG Estate.

But that’s not the end of it, not even by a long shot! If you’ve still got some more money to spend, AMG will gladly take it and give you the new optional S-MOdel tech, which is available with all-wheel drive and and makes a scarcely believable 585 PS (577 HP) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. This shaves a little bit off the time, and allows you to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds in the sedan or 3.7 in the estate. We don’t need to tell you that’s in line with some supercars.

The new E63 AMG will make its official debut at the Detroit Motor Show next week. Sales of the RWD models start in April, followed by the 4MATICs and S-Models in June.

autoevolution will be attending the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
