We remember a time when buying a Mercedes meant picking between three different sized sedans or a couple of 2-door models. Of course, SUVs are now booming, but that doesn't mean the E-Class isn't relevant.
Introduced about three years ago, the W213 generation is worlds away from its predecessor and also debuted a number of Mercedes technologies. For example, it had better screens than the S-Class, as well as that new-fangled parking remote control.

That being said, Mercedes likes to do a facelift around the middle of every generation's life cycle, and the one for the E-Class should be coming out next year. This latest spy video from German car spotter WalkoArt shows both the sedan model and the S213 E-Class T-Model derivative (wagon).

As the number of Mercedes models grows, the facelifts are getting less and less interesting. For example, you can barely tell what they've done to the GLC-Class SUV. In this situation, the aim seems to be to bring the E-Class in line with the sportier CLS-Class four-door coupe.

As such, you have a completely different halo for the headlights, which might be narrower as well. The hoods have those long ridges which used to be specific to AMG models and the grille is sort of reversed.

Obviously, you're going to have small changes to the bumpers and new graphics for the taillights as well. A few new wheel designs or paint choices will round of the exterior makeover.

Due to emissions regulations, the E-Class has received almost constant upgrades. It was also the model that debuted the revised four-cylinder turbo engines, such as the 2-liter diesel or the gasoline unit with EQ Boost.

However, that doesn't automatically mean Mercedes won't launch anything new. The W223 S-Class should bring all-new systems we haven't heard about. We can't imagine them adding any more gears to the 9-speed, but you never know. Also, the new hybrid systems are supposed to have both more electric power and batteries that last up to 100 kilometers (62 miles).
