At the beginning of the month, BMW confirmed that it will bring the Vision EfficientDynamics concept into production by 2013, offering the world a three-hugging ultra-high performance vehicle.
The Los Angeles Auto Show has seen Mercedes present the Biome concept, a vehicle that comes with many original design solutions and has a strong connection with nature. The concept, which was introduced as part of the L.A. Design Challenge, is actually a preview for a mid-engined vehicle that will be a competitor for the aforementioned BMW model, as autocar reports.
The Mercedes-Benz Biome was created at the company’s Californian design studio. The carmaker’s specialist had to keep a fine balance between offering a futuristic view and using solutions that could be translated into production in the future.
“There are elements within the design that could easily be progressed and developed for production. We were conscious during its development to ensure it wasn’t too limited or edgy. It had to be do-able without any significant changes,” Hubert Lee, head of the California design studio, was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.
Of course we’re happy that the German rivals are preparing to enter a new battle, but we’d rather see BMW allocating resources for building a proper supercar.
