Mercedes Consider 3-Point Star for Brawn GP

German car maker Mercedes Benz is reportedly considering adding their three-pointed star on Brawn GP's BGP 001. Following the Brawn's 2009 challenger winning no less than 4 out of 5 races this season, having their star taking the chequered flag race after race has now appealed to the aforementioned engine supplier.

Mercedes and Ross Brawn signed an engine partnership ahead of the 2009 season, but the deal was mostly regarded as a customer agreement. Mercedes' works team in Formula One is Team McLaren, of whom the German manufacturer controls no less than 40 percent.

Nonetheless, following Jenson Button's win in Spain, Mercedes' motorsport director Norberg Haug confirmed the German manufacturer is now considering the option of fitting the BGP 001s with the Merc star. While admitting the possibility has been offered to them by the Brackley based team, Haug insisted no decision has been made on the matter.

We have possibilities and options and it has been offered to us,” revealed Haug, according to German F1 broadcaster RTL.

In addition, though, Haug made it very clear that McLaren will continue to represent the interests of the Stuttgart marque inside the Great Circle, regardless of that decision.

After 5 rounds of the 2009 Formula One Championship, Brawn GP comfortably leads the manufacturers' classification with a overall 68 points, 29.5 points ahead of closest rivals Red Bull Racing and 41.5 points more than 3rd placed Toyota. McLaren Mercedes are 4th overall, having scored only 13 points (no podium) so far.
