During the media event marking the start of production for the new A-Class five-door in Germany, Daimler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche made an official saying the third model to be built at Rastatt after the A- and B-Class will be a subcompact crossover based on the same platform.
According to previous reports, the A-Class SUB will be called the GLA, and thankfully we have a rendering of what this will likely look like. This is the new naming system from the German automaker, where all off-roaders will start with “GL”, the “A” indicating this is the smallest of the bunch.

Mercedes will invest another €600 million ($730 million) in 2012 and 2013, which will go towards another major expansion.

"Demand for our premium compact cars is so strong that we are going to introduce a third assembly shift in October 2012", said Peter Wesp, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Rastatt plant.

A couple of months ago, Mercedes Said that another derivative of the same platform, the CLA four-door coupe, will be built in Hungary.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
