Mercedes Confirms A45 AMG: AWD, 7-Speed DCT, 400 Nm

Early reports suggested the AMG version of the A-Class would be called the A25. However, the fact of the matter was that this would overlap in a very un-Mercedes way with the fact that the normal range included an A 250 model.

Now, Mercedes has shed light on the matter revealing the car is indeed called the A45 AMG at an event that celebrated 45 years since the AMG brand was founded.

The A 45 AMG has been revealed to be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is supposed to “set new standards in its displacement class: with maximum torque significantly above 400 Nm and low consumption levels.”

The horsepower output has not yet been revealed buy is expected t be somewhere in the region of 330 PS. This new AMG engine will be built at he Mercedes-Benz MDC Power engine production plant in Kolleda and coupled to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission with dual clutch technology and performance-oriented all-wheel drive. Yes, that is official folks!

The car will also offer 3-stage ESP with a Sport Handling mode tuned for track use. Deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of next year, when Mercedes hopes customers wanting an enthuziastic drive will pick this over the BMW M135i or the Audi RS3 Sportback.

"Our goal is to build the most dynamic, most powerful and at the same time most efficient four-cylinder series production compact car. Together with other future high-performance compact cars, the new A 45 AMG will embody exclusive dynamism and the "AMG Performance 50" growth strategy. With this passionate commitment to what for us is a new vehicle segment, Mercedes-AMG plans to make a significant contribution to the growth of Mercedes-Benz Cars", according to Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
