Mercedes Confident Rosberg Will Win Soon

Prior to the start of the season, everyone was talking about Michael Schumacher and his return to the series with Mercedes GP. His much younger teammate Nico Rosberg was hardly questioned by the media at the several events the Brackley based team was part of, and that was OK with the German, as he needed peace to prepare his first campaign away from Frank Williams' protective hands.

Now that he's clearly winning his personal duel with the 7-time world champion and scored 2 podiums in a row for his team, it's still Schumacher on the agenda, and his struggling form in F1. Team boss Ross Brawn did however find a few minutes to discuss his other driver also, when asked by the Reuters news agency what is his opinion of Rosberg's performances so far.

The Brit argued that his young driver could have already become a race winner in F1 in China, and only a minor mistake deprived him of some valuable 25 points overall. Instead, he finished 3rd in the race, and is now 10 points behind leader Jenson Button in the drivers' classification.

I was frustrated at the weekend (in China) because Nico could have won that race. He made one mistake in very difficult circumstances,” said Brawn, who insisted that he won't wait long until celebrating a race win alongside Rosberg.

He's very close to winning a race, just needs things to fall into place... but that will come. I'm sure he will definitely do it,” added the Mercedes GP principal.

For the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, the major changes are however directed towards Michael Schumacher, who will use a completely different chassis (longer wheelbase) in the season. The 41-year old ace is having a hard time adjusting to the current Mercedes W01 (due to the behavior of the narrower front tires) and it has been projected that a longer wheelbase will take care of that issue in some way.

Several aerodynamic updates will however be in place for Rosberg also, as the Barcelona track has different characteristics as compared to the other Grands Prix completed so far in the championship. Additionally, Mercedes will debut their European package in Spain, much like all the other teams in the roster.
