Back in the day, if you crashed a car it was always your fault for not knowing how to inspect or maintain your automobile the right way. But now, automakers can’t get away with any fault, and they don’t even want to since it affects their image. And so, they try to fix any fault, no matter how small.
Today’s recall targets only a small number of 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS 550 and CLS 550 4Matic saloons which have a fault that could result in the hood of the car opening while you’re driving.
"The bolts that hold the hood's secondary latch striker may have been insufficiently tightened," the recall notice from the NHTSA warns. "The reduced torque of the striker bolts might lead to a loosening of the bolts. If two of the four bolts securing the striker became loose, the secondary hood latch function would become ineffective. If this problem combines with a failure of the primary hood lock or if the hood is not properly closed, the hood could open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash."
Fortunately, only a small number of vehicles are affected by the recall, built from December 01, 2011, through December 13, 2011, 23 units of the car in total.
