Mercedes is really jumping onto the front-wheel drive bandwagon this time, with not one but five cars based on their new modular MFA platform. It has already spawned the new B-Class and A-Class (in that order), and soon a sedan, SUV and another unknown model (coupe?) will follow.
The new B-Class is already a huge success story in Europe, but it won’t be as popular in the US, where customers are not familiarized with the benefits of a luxury hatchback. That’s where the new CLA steps in. It’s a sedan with four door coupe lines, slotting in the range underneath the C-Class.
A completely undisguised version of the CLA was recently spotted in Iceland, most likely participating in a photo shoot for its upcoming reveal next year.
Behind these photos is an equally interesting story. Bernhard Kohlmeier is the man who took them from his hotel room at Northern Light Inn near the Blue Lagoon at Grindavik, Iceland. He was in Iceland because he flew with Iceland Air from Frankfurt to New York, according to Der Spiegel.
Don’t fall in love with the sporty look though, because that’s either the CLA45 AMG or the CLA 250 Sport. We’re inclined to think it’s the latter.
