Just like the Mercedes CLS created a new class back in 2005 when the first generation was released, its Shooting Break version that has been recently revealed should also popularize the niche segment it belongs to.
Mercedes is reportedly already preparing for the next step on this pathway, with the carmaker considering building a smaller model, which would be named the CLA Shooting Break.

If it gets the green light, this will be underpinned by the carmaker’s new Modular Front Architecture (MFA) used by the new A- and B-Class and will be connected to the upcoming CLA four-door coupe, which was previewed by the Concept Style Coupe at the Beijing Motor Show in April.

The CLA Shooting Brake should come with a wide range of engines, which will be spearheaded by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit in the A45 AMG, which should deliver up to 340 hp via a four-wheel drive system (the more basic versions will use front-wheel drive), which should offer it a 0 to 62 mph srpint time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The new niche player is expected to be released in 2014 and should be priced around EUR35,000.
