Mercedes CLA Boldly Going Where No Japanese Commercial Has Gone Before

The marketing campaign for the Mercedes CLA-Class in Japan is called "CLA is Born". Thankfully, that doesn't mean it's coming out o womb, though what you're about to see is just as strange.
This commercial shows the car coming out of warp drive, like the starship Enterprise. The Merc four-door coupe is shown with no panel lines, no wheels, no mirrors or underbody. It's a bit like the concept shown by Citroen in 1955 at the Paris Motor Show to showcase the DS, but with a crazy Japanese twist.

In Japan, the CLA range starts with the JPY3,350,000 CLA 180 model, powered by a 1.6-liter turbo engine with 122 HP and goes up to the CLA 45 AMG, which is more than twice as expensive at JPY7,100,000. Spaceship money indeed!

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
