It’s the year of the wagons here at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. There, we said it. We had to, after Mercedes-Benz brought the CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake on stage in Geneva, along with the other pack of wagons from other carmakers.
But this is Mercedes and the CLA 45 AMG is not just an ordinary estate (or shooting brake, to keep the fancy aura of the nameplate). It’s not an absolute novelty anymore, but its ambition to be just as sexy as the CLA, but a lot faster and more practical must be appreciated.

There’s really no point in discussing the design because we’re ready to give a round of applause to Mercedes-Benz’s design department. We know you feel the same, so let’s agree that the CLA 45 Shooting Brake sets the bar high for sleek estates - and powerful as well.

Of course, less is more for Mercedes-AMG but the splitter, those large front air intakes and that subtle roof spoiler, coupled with the sports exhaust system are one nice visual treat, a sign that beauty isn’t always in the eye of the beholder.

The CLA 45 AMG was blessed with 360 HP at 6,000 rpm and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque between 2,250 and 5,000 rpm, put to the ground via a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and managed by a seven-speed AMG Speedshift DCT gearbox. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is done in 4.7 seconds, while the top speed has been electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).

Combined fuel consumption for the four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine is 6.9 l/100 km according to Mercedes-Benz, but we doubt anyone will ever get close that value any time soon.
