It looks like Volker Mornhinweg, the former AMG boss, didn’t actually mean what he said when he shocked the performance vehicles world by announcing  the German Power War is over. However, BMW’s M division seems to have believed the horsepower white flag intention, as none of the company’s latest creations (the M3 competition package, the M3 Coupe Frozen Gray edition and M3 carbon kit) include additional muscle under the bonnet.

However, Mercedes in now breaking the vow and releasing a pumped up version of the C63 AMG model. The carmaker’s UK division has presented the C-Klasse DR 520 (yap, that’s 520 hp people!) model.

The DR 520 performance upgrade, which offers 650 Nm of torque and is available for both the sedan and estate versions of the car, brings a 60 hp and 50 Nm premium over the “standard” version of the C63 AMG. The new model is the most powerful C-Klasse, even surpassing the model equipped with the optional AMG Performance Pack Plus that delivers 487 hp and 600 Nm.

The C63 AMG DR 520 saloon only needs 4.1 seconds to leave the 62 mph mark behind, with the estate version adding 0.1 s to the time. Both cars are electronically limited to a top speed of 187 mph (301 km/h).

The new models are fitted with the aforementioned AMG Performance Pack Plus, receiving a top spec braking system with red calipers, upgraded engine internals (forged pistons, new connecting rods), a modified crankshaft and a carbon fiber rear spoiler for the saloon.

The cars can be dressed in a black or white matte finish and come with special exterior features including Titanium finish alloy rims, a custom grille and special badging on the wing and boot lid.

The new go-fast package also bring interior upgrades, such as sports seats that feature a leather/Alcantara finish with red/white contrasting stitching, with the same treatment being used for the dash and upper door panels. In addition, the multi-function AMG Performance steering wheel comes finished in Nappa leather and Alcantara.

The DR520 costs 9,995 pounds ($15,000 or EUR 12,200) more than the standard C63 AMG, bringing the saloon to a price of 62,430 pounds ($93,715 or EUR 76,400) and the estate to 63,680 pounds ($95,592 or EUR 77,900). Only 20 units will be produced, with the vehicles being sold exclusively through the company’s Specialist Products division at Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands, Surrey - Now that you know the destination for the GPS, we’ll see you there.
