Mercedes C Klasse Gets Three New Engines

German manufacturer Mercedes has announced it has developed three new engines (two diesel and one petrol) to be fitted on the company's C Klasse. The new units are both direct injection ones, developed to raise performance and, at the same time, keep fuel consumption levels and CO2 emissions as low as possible.

The first of the three engines, a 2.1l diesel, is fitted on the C 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY saloon. The manufacturer calls it the most "efficient C Klasse ever', as it generates 170 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It is capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 8.4 seconds and tops at 232 km/h, while maintaining fuel consumption at 4.8l/100 km and 127g/km CO2 emissions.

Another 2.1l engine can be found on the C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. The power developed by the unit amounts to 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It gets to 100 in 7.0 seconds and tops at a speed of 240 km//h. The diesel eats up 5.1l of fuel every 100 km and it releases 134g of CO2 into the air every kilometer.

The new 1.8l four cylinder mounted on the C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY develops 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque. It takes it 7.4 seconds to reach 100 km/h from a stop, while combined consumption amounts to 7.2 liters per 100 km (CO2 emissions 168 g/km). Top speed of the C 250 CGI is 240 km/h.

The three new engines will be available for their respective model variants as both saloon and estate versions.
