The first month of spring in the northern hemisphere brings with it the promise of high-power motoring, as the specialists from AMG, teaming, as usual, with Mercedes Benz, have spawned yet another exciting star of the road.
Coming in the shape of the new C-Klasse with a twist, the C 63 AMG coupe leaves behind, for now, all those worries about downsizing and the high price of gasoline. The car is powered by AMG's usual 6.3l V8 engine, which for this model has been tweaked into developing 457 hp and peak torque of 600 Nm.
The immense troop that lies under the hood of the coupe draws the body of the car to the 62 mph mark in 4.5 seconds (a 4.4 time, as well as a 30 hp increase in power can be achieved by using an AMG performance package) and keeps on doing so until the car reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Linked to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission, the engine has a fuel consumption figure of 12.0 l/100 km (19 mpg).
The new c 63 AMG coupe comes with all the features and extras the German manufacturer and its tuning arm have gotten us used to by now, starting with the AMG logo on the 3D TFT display, for instance, and ending with the COMAND Online multimedia system.
A more exclusive interior is offered by the AMG in the form of the Edition 1 package, which features leather wrapping the sports seats (adorned with porcelain seams), door center panels and armrests and steering wheel. At the exterior, the package is detailed by the 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in matt black and a standard metallic paintwork.
The prices for the coupe version of the C 63 AMG start at EUR72,590 for the regular version and reach EUR77,231 for the Edition 1. Today Mercedes also released the prices for the other body versions of the model: the saloon is priced at EUR71,340 and the estate at EUR73,899. The performance package we mentioned earlier will sell for EUR7,116 (for the saloon and coupe versions) and EUR6,461 for the estate.
