The Zetros has been with us since 2008, when the German automaker debuted the model at the Eurosatory defence industry trade show in Paris. But at this year's Caravan Show in Dusseldorf, the three-pointed star has unveiled an RV variant of the Zetros, the coolest recreational vehicle we've ever seen.
Basically a super-home on wheels, this two-axle, Unimog-based Zetros is both capable when the going gets rough and extremely comfortable inside. Mercedes-Benz and Hartmann Spezialkarosserien made the body, while the living quarters and cockpit were penned by the specialists from Hunerkopf.

Sporting a permissible gross vehicle weight of 18 tons, Mercedes has gifted the Zetros with four-wheel drive and a BlueTec 7.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine rated 326 horsepower. The diesel mill is coupled to a six-speed transmission. Oh, did we mention that it comes with three differential locks and a two-stage transfer case? 16.00 R 20 off-road tires, the 2 x 500 mm maximum degree of articulation, a climbing ability of 80 percent and a fording depth of 1,190 mm complete the list of off-road capabilities.

As you might've figured by now, this new Zetros variant is all about numbers. Big numbers. Take, for example, the 300-liter fresh water tank or the 600-liter diesel fuel tank. Moreover, the Mercedes-Benz Zetros is fitted with two heating units and an air conditioner for added comfort. A lithium-ion battery pack, a solar energy system and a power generator are also on the menu.

The high-specification interior layout is just as carefully thought out as it is comfortable. A spacious L-shaped seating arrangement with kitchenette is complemented in the central section by a bathroom. A roomy double bed rounds off the accommodation at the rear. The high-grade furnishings in the mobile home are trimmed with a real-wood veneer in bird's-eye maple.

Both the floor and the kitchen worktop are finished in lightweight natural stone. The large sofa in the slide-out is upholstered in breathable genuine leather, while an entertainment system featuring a satellite dish, a Bose sound system and internet connectivity round off the living quarters nicely.
