Do you experience back hurts on a daily basis? Are you a truck driver? Then, Mercedes-Benz has the right answer for you. No, it’s not some a new chair that will make your back take the proper shape, nor is it some bed their new trucks feature. It’s a fitness kit that will offer truck drivers a way to work out while they are on the road, a truck-gym if you want.
No April Fool’s prank here, move forward.

Not only is this not a joke, but it might as well be some sort of public health solution since apparently back ailments are quite an issue in Germany. According to a 2012 study conducted by the Robert Koch Institute, around 80 percent of the Deutsch population suffer back ailments during the course of their lives, and in many cases these are also chronic.

Moreover, during a health monitoring survey by the research institute in March 2014, 20.7 percent of adults in the country reported that in 2013 alone, they had suffered chronic back pain at least once. The health problem is also the subject of a recent 2014 health report produced by the technical insurance fund. They found that younger employees are also frequently afflicted with these ailments, which can seriously affect the quality of life and the ability to work.

Truck drivers are the ones to suffer most from back hurts

Since truck drivers are sitting several hours in a row and can’t quite afford to go to the gym in between their trips, Mercedes-Benz came up with a fitness-to-go solution they call TopFit Set. It includes a board of robust plywood to which two metal eyelets are attached. The rubber training straps known as tubes are attached to these with a spring clip. According to the German carmaker, the board also acts as a standing surface.

The user puts his/her bodyweight on the board, and with dimensions of 65 x 40 centimeters it fits perfectly on the floor surface between the seats. The board comes with two pairs of tubes with different levels of training resistance. These are made from a special rubber formulation and have a constant rate of elasticity. It means that individuals of different sizes can train with the set, as the effort required remains constant however far the tube is being stretched,” Mercedes explains in their press release you can consult below.

Since everything in this world has to be online, the TopFit Set also comes with an app that will access four video exercises developed in close cooperation with sport scientists so the user know exactly how to use the device.
