Mercedes-Benz USA Loves Nicki Minaj and She Loves Them Back

Mercedes-Benz USA has Instagramed a picture with Nicki Minaj's SLS AMG 1 photo

The automotive world is experiencing a fundamental change in terms of marketing and PR. We saw Nissan claiming that the behind of their GT-R is better than Kim Kardashian’s posterior (or is it the other way around?) on the official Instagram account. Lamborghini Huracan was teasing Deadmau5 with a Huracan wrapped in the DJ’s favorite Nyan Cat character. Now, it’s Merc’s moment.
Remember the days when you’d see a Mercedes-Benz W126 on the street and a moment of respectful silence moment would immediately follow? Well, this humble editor does. Call it a childhood memory if you wish, and it so happens I was on a great family trip to Deutschland. Back then they almost venerated the German carmaker’s series of flagship vehicles.

Why am I telling you this? Because that’s the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw Mercedes-Benz USA Instagraming the pink SLS AMG with its Gullwing doors you can see above. It so happens it's none other than Nicki Minaj’s ride. Well, it’s one of the plenty the successful rapper has been seen with in the past couple of years.

As a matter of fact, she clearly has a soft spot for the color since Minaj has posed with other vehicles wrapped with the same “nuance” before. However, the 2-seater luxury supercar is one of the most esteemed in the German automaker’s lineup, one that simply doesn’t get too old.

Whether it’s the fact that the SLS AMG was assembled largely by hand or it’s more about what AMG calls “the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated production series engine,” this beauty does not seize to amaze. Not that we want to bore you, but Mercedes practically set a new trend with those gorgeous Gullwing doors alone.

Hey, we’re not even going to talk about the engine powering this beast. Since we are looking at a pink breed, we’d like to point out a couple of details about the design instead. The SLS AMG was intended to be a modern 300SL Gullwing revival by Mark Fetherston. Why would anyone want to change it in any other way, then perhaps adding some custom wheels?

Don’t worry about it, though, Mercedes-Benz seems to agree with it. And this is rather unexpected.
