Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Ernst Lieb was forced by parent company Daimler to leave his position, with Daimler spokesman Han Tjan announcing the move will become effective immediately.
Tjan did not offer a reason for the firing, only saying that the carmaker’s US operations will now be supervised by Herbert Wener, who is currently Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance, Controlling and IT.
The move doesn’t make sense, as Mercedes has registered growing sales on the US market under Lieb’s reign, with the carmaker recently becoming the top US luxury brand position (based on data offered by Autodata Corp, which includes the sales registered in the first nine months of the current year).
