While the German company used the same name for both, the first Urban eTruck was based on a production model, while the second one is called “urban eTruck,” and is a concept vehicle that previews the future of short-range freight transportation.

At the same time, the Urban eTruck Concept previews the potential look of upcoming trucks from Mercedes-Benz, as some of its lines might inspire production models.

Those trucks might not be electric, as the concept vehicle, but the design of the cabin and the front end could be inspired by the exhibit that you can see in the photo gallery.

The Urban eTruck Concept from Mercedes-Benz has two engines, which have an output of 2x 125 kW (2x 167 HP), while their torque is 2x 500 Nm (2x 368 lb-ft). The electric motors are placed adjacent to the wheel hubs. The German automaker has already employed the rear axle in buses, so it knows that the design is viable for day-to-day use.

The said engines are powered by a battery pack that operates with lithium-ion technology, and its capacity is 212 kWh. Mercedes-Benz expects the powertrain to provide a range of up to 200 kilometers (124 miles), which is more than enough for a typical day of delivery in the city.

Just like in its connected van concept, Vision Van, Mercedes-Benz has employed connectivity in the Urban eTruck Concept vehicle. The German company has implemented a telematics service, which is connected to the vehicle’s systems.

Thanks to this setup, the fleet operator can monitor all the trucks in operation, and they can be organized depending on remaining charge and pallet spaces available in their cargo areas.

Every truck has a predictive powertrain control system, which allows it to operate in a proactive way that will prevent the vehicles getting stranded because of insufficient energy in its batteries.
