Mercedes-Benz Travego Gets New Seats

German manufacturer Daimler took advantage of the 2010 IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover to present several novelties in the bus and truck segment of the industry, including the new seats designed for the Mercedes-Benz Travego, holder of the title of Coach of the Year 2010.

The new seats, built in-house by Daimler, feature several novelties, including aluminum for the side trim, intuitive lateral adjustment for the aisle seats and adjustment of the backrest angle and a sprung system for the seat cushion.

Being modular in design, the car seats leave a wide choice of design opportunities for the buyers of the bus. Mercedes has designed both fold-down cinema-style seats and fully folding seats. This means that the vehicles can be used for inter-urban regular service and as travel coaches.

The use of new materials has also made room for significant reduction in weight, with Mercedes saying it has achieved a 70 kg reduction in the weight for the bus.

The first bus featuring this new seating system has been handed over to Bohr Omnibus. It is a Travel Star Xtra (TSX) version with Luxline upholstery and some other unique touches: leather headrests in silver, fabric pockets on the backrests, footrests, folding tables, seat numbering, and bag hooks.

As said, the Travego has been named Coach of the Year 2010 by Busworld Kortrijk. After going against other big names of the industry like the Neoplan Cityliner, Barbi Maestro, Van Hool Altano and Plaxton Elite, Mercedes' coach managed to clinch the title for its “economic efficiency, environmental acceptability, handling, comfort and safety.”
