As we were reporting back in August, there was a special connection between the late Nelson Mandela and Mercedes-Benz, not only between the former president and his South African people.
After being released from a 27 year imprisonment in 1990, one of the most talked-about gifts he received was actually in the form of a red Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W126), which had been hand-built by a group of Mercedes-Benz South Africa workers with donated parts from the company and outside of regular working hours.

We then presented you their short story, but now that the Nobel Peace Prize winner has passed away, the Stuttgart car manufacturer will apparently provide “a key role in the logistics of his funeral.”

According to Business Day live, Mercedes-Benz South Africa will offer logistical support for the funeral, including for his family.

Nelson Mandela's funeral will take place on Sunday, December 15.
