As we were reporting back in August, there was a special connection between the late Nelson Mandela and Mercedes-Benz, not only between the former president and his South African people.
After being released from a 27 year imprisonment in 1990, one of the most talked-about gifts he received was actually in the form of a red Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W126), which had been hand-built by a group of Mercedes-Benz South Africa workers with donated parts from the company and outside of regular working hours.

According to Business Day live, Mercedes-Benz South Africa will offer logistical support for the funeral, including for his family.
