According to automotive news (subscription required), the company is accelerating its hybrid developments, with the results scheduled to arrive in the next three years.
The German automotive producer is set to make multiple steps into the hybrid woods. The company will offer not one or two, but three new hybrid developments, with the green versions targeting the C-, E- and S-Klasse.
The eco offensive will be launched both in the US and in Europe within three years. Daimler has important plans for its hybrid developments, as the carmaker intends to use this pathway to meet the stricter upcoming global fuel economy standards.
"We have a leading position in the premium segment concerning alternative propulsion systems, and we will defend it," Herbert Kohler, head of Daimler's E-Drive and Future Mobility unit, was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.
A company insider told the aforementioned source that the C- and E-Klasse will receive full hybrid versions, which will hit the European market by 2013, while the S-Klasse will receive a plug-in hybrid incarnation, which will come to the world in 2014.
Like we said, Americans will also receive these vehicles, However, U.S. customers will have to wait an additional six months to receive the eco cars. Mercedes currently offers the S400 as a mild hybrid and the M-Klasse as a full hybrid in the US.
