Although Google Glass is far from being available at your local electronic store and only a handful of civilians are currently testing the $1,500 thingamajig, Mercedes-Benz's North American R&D is already thinking about including its technology in the brand's future cars.
The Business Journal reports that the R&D branch of MB USA is working on a way to integrate the GPS-equipped Google Glass in the vehicle's satellite navigation user experience.
According to the President and CEO of the North American R&D department, Johann Jungwirth, the carmaker's main goal is a “seamless door-to door transition between pedestrian directions and in-car GPS.”
In other words, in the near future, those lucky Mercedes-Benz and Google Glass owners will be able to select a destination from their home, get in their car and drive there, then exit the vehicle and receive the final directions while talking a leisurely stroll.
Normally, or should we say for the time being, you would have to input destinations once in the car, for the in-car sat nav, and once on your smartphone or other non-vehicle-based navigation systems. In other words, hooray for time saving! Or was it laziness?
