Mercedes-Benz Teases Its Presence at the Paris Motor Show, Looks like the Future

We're just a few days away from the opening of this year's Paris Motor Show, so all manufacturers are either starting to release teasers or are trying to keep their lips better sealed than ever.

Mercedes-Benz appears to be part of the former category as it has just released a very short clip that's supposed to make us curious about the novelties it'll bring to the French capital motor show. Well, we've known for a while that it plans to showcase the prototype of an all-electric car that's supposed to send the German premium carmaker into a new era, but other than that, we're almost as blind as a bat.

Rumors have suggested the EV will have the body of an SUV or crossover, perhaps similar to the conventional GLC. However, Mercedes-Benz insisted this was going to be a completely new car, so any resemblance should be confined to the mandatory brand identity elements.

Speaking of brands, it was also highly speculated that Mercedes-Benz would create a new name under which to sell its future range of electric cars, much like BMW did (or, at least, initially did) with the "i" moniker. Nobody knows what name Mercedes-Benz - or, rather, Daimler AG - will choose, but it looks like we might find out soon enough.

The teaser the Germans released today is clearly a direct hint to everything we've been talking about here. The car it features looks like a combination of current Mercedes-Benz models and something more at home in a Tron movie. We can't see much, but we're OK with the absence of side mirrors (replaced by cameras) and that view of the interior which looks like what an eventual Apple car should look like.

If all the blue lighting wasn't enough, that power switch symbol clears out any doubt that we're talking about an electric vehicle, as does the tagline at the end of the 15-seconds clip: "Ready to Change?" We don't know how you feel, but we're hyped. However, Mercedes better come up with something at least on par with Tesla, or we might lose faith in traditional carmakers for good when it comes to EVs.
