This year should mark the all-out offensive of the Mercedes-EQ sub-brand, and the premium German automaker is looking to keep its word as it just announced the imminent arrival of the first new representative. This is probably the final teaser for the small EQA crossover ahead of its official unveiling, scheduled for January 20th, at 11 AM CET.
From the smaller EQA to the flagship EQS, Mercedes-Benz is promising the electric revolution is finally taking place this year; that should be great news for the compact EQC, which was probably feeling lonely by now, especially since the adventurous EQC 4x4² isn’t going into series production.
“With Mercedes-EQ, we are sending a clear signal for sustainability and progress. We are convinced that cross-functional cooperation including with strategic partners is our key to success in order to make our guiding themes of #LeadInElectric, #LeadInCarSoftware and #SustainabilityOverall a reality,” said Markus Schäfer, the COO of Mercedes-Benz Cars, when the company announced its EQ plans for the year.
Notice the loving use of hashtags? Well, Mercedes is trying to blend in with the social media crowd and promises a digital world premiere chock-full of influencer material, as three international gurus from the automotive, technology, and lifestyle worlds will “report on their first-time moments” in the new EQA alongside the company’s managers.
With that out of the equation, it’s time to focus on the real deal – the brand also shared a shadowy cockpit image that’s supposed to entice us to the smallest representative of the EQ family.
Instead, we come out a bit perplexed. Granted, we didn’t expect the new MBUX Hyperscreen that’s going to adorn the EQS to make an appearance here... but isn’t that central infotainment screen a bit on the small side?!
Hopefully, it’s the angle playing tricks on our mind, and the EQA’s digital environment is going to deliver satisfactory screen real estate; most likely, it's also because we're also dealing with a very wide touch display in the landscape position, as opposed to the one in the S-Class (which has portrait-style orientation).
