Mercedes-Benz Still Plans to Lead The Premium Car Segment

Mercedes-Benz plans an aggressive campaign in order to “catch up” with its main competitors like BMW and Audi. The manufacturers goal is to become the world’s top premium car brand. Though the manufacturer hasposted encouraging sales figures, it seems that is not sufficient. Dieter Zetsche, Daimler’s CEO motivates his employees by reminding them that their competitor’s achievements should motivate them, admitting this way that Mercedes-Benz has been outpaced by competitors like Audi and BMW.

“Some of our competitors are now growing faster and more profitably than we are. Granted, those are just snapshots in time and should not be overestimated. After all, many of our best new products are yet to come. In the long run we can't be content to be in a 'solid second' or even 'third' place: We are Daimler – we should be far ahead of the pack! And if that requires something that we don't currently have, then we'll identify and develop it".

"Enjoy your summer and refill your tanks. Because in the second half of this year we're going to continue to play some hard offense!" Dieter Zietsche, Daimler CEO was quoted as saying from a letter he issued to Daimler employees by autonews.com

Unlike its German rivals who are enjoying growing sales boasted by the economy in China, Mercedes-Benz has fallen a bit behind, although it has achieved great results in the first half. Mercedes-Benz has managed to pull of an increase of 9.7 percent in the first six months to 610,531 units. In the mean time, Audi’s sales grew by 17.7 percent to 652,970 units and BMW sales grew 17.8 percent to 689,861.
