Launched at the end of 2013 in Europe, the hardcore Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 is just a year away from reaching the land of the free as well, becoming the only 4x4 van in its segment in the US.
To go on sale in the first quarter of the 2015 calendar year, the MY2015 Sprinter 4x4 will be available in almost every configuration, with two wheelbases and two types of roofs (low or high).
Available body styles will include the Passenger Van, Crew Van (two-row passengers and cargo area) and Cargo Van with two gross weights.
As some of you already know, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 is pretty much like an off-roading van, as it has a raised suspension and an all-wheel drive 4Matic system that can be optionally-equipped with a low range gear for giving the G-Wagen some competition.
With a body lifted by 110 mm (4.3 inches) in the front and 80 mm (3.1 inches) in the rear, it has a slope climbing ability up to 20 percent higher than the Sprinter with rear wheel drive and normal suspension, while the 4Matic system only ads about 120 kg (265 pounds) in weight compared with the “regular” Sprinter Van.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 will be exclusively available with the more powerful three-liter V6 BlueTec engine that delivers 188 hp and 440 Nm (325 lb ft) of torque. The power is distributed at a ratio of 35:65 between the front and the rear axle via the 4Matic all-wheel drive system, with further torque distribution to be handled by the Electronic Traction System (4ETS) like in any modern Mercedes-Benz SUV.
