The Silveretta E-Car Rally, now in its third edition, is a special type of rally which is designed to test and push EVs to their constructive limits, in order to force problems to appear, then allow the manufacturers to counteract the problem so that it will never reappear in every-day use.
With last year’s venue being won by the A1 E-Tron, Mercedes-Benz will be looking to make a big impression at this year’s rally, taking place on a 330 km (205 mile) stretch of road in Austria’s Tyrol and Voralberg regions, between 6 and 8 July. They will be entering a 526 hp SLS AMG E-Cell, two A-Class EVs, two B-Class F-Cells (hydrogen fuel cell vehicles), as well as a pair of the recently-launched Smart ED.

Also, considering the fact that the Mercedes team will be lead by ex-racing driver Karl Wendlinger, an Austrian native, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer is one of this year’s favourites. We’ll let you know who won as soon as the information becomes available.
