While the modern Gullwing range has just been given the official axe starting with 2014, it doesn't mean that the SLS AMG is dead yet, especially when talking about the most powerful model in the range.
Many people - including us - called the recently-launched SLS AMG GT Final Series a swan song for the SLS AMG series, but the truth is that there couldn't be a better ending for the model than the SLS AMG Black Series.
Instead of going out with a different-looking but technically-identical Final Series, why not go out with a bang?
And what a bang it is! Over 100 hp per liter from a gargantuan 6.2-liter engine that is naturally-aspirated is something worth being proud about, especially in an era where even toasters will probably get turbochargers.
No less than 631 hp (622 bhp) and 635 Nm (468 lb ft) of torque are squeezed from the burbling and roaring M159 engine under the ginormous hood, enough to propel the SLS AMG Black Series from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a tad over three and a half seconds.
The model's biggest assets isn't found in the numbers it delivers though, but it the fantastic way it delivers them. At least this is what we gathered from most of the reviews of the car we've shared until now, including the one from Autocar, who recently had a go in the SLS AMG Black Series as well.
