Although Mercedes-Benz first unveiled a diesel-powered SLK back at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show - albeit just as a concept based on the R171 sporting three turbochargers – a production version diesel roadster only appeared with the R172 generation of the SLK.
The current Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 CDI features a 2.1-liter diesel engine with four cylinders and two-stage turbochargers that develops 204 hp (201 bhp) and 500 Nm (369 lb ft) of torque.

These figures translate into a naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of just 6.5 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission and 6.7 seconds with the 7 G-Tronic.

All that and a medium fuel consumption of around 5 liters per 100 km (47 mpg US). Along with a top speed of  244 km/h (151 mph), these aren't exactly the performance figures of an European taxi cab.

The Brits from Xcar took a Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 CDI to the test and also made a nice video review with their opinions about the car, which you can watch bellow.
