If you ask us, the current-generation Mercedes-Benz SL is not that good looking. And we’re pretty sure no tunning specialist can save it with a body kit and a set of new rollers.
However, a design study released by a group of Italian design students working at the manufacturer’s Design Center in Como adds a touch of “sugar, spice and everything nice” to the coupe thanks to a shooting brake-styled body.
In order to become a two-door coupe, the SL lost its folding hardtop in favor of a sleek roof that was gifted with a new rear hatch and a rear window. Although that’s about the only thing a vehicle need to technically become a shooting brake, the designers also worked on a new rear bumper and flared wheel arches.
While it’s not the most spectacular shooting brake we’ve ever seen, it does improve greatly on the SL model, so hats off the team that created the CoupeTorino design study. We have a feeling this could make a successful limited production car, but we just can’t see it coming from Stuttgart and it will probably remain just a virtual vehicle and a 1/4 scale model.
