This year, Mercedes-Benz will be celebrating 60 years since an SL model won the Mille Miglia, an iconic event that has been revived in recent years and that features what we consider classic cars by today’s standards. Back then, the cars were the best you could find and not once were they heralded as ‘the best ever’.
In order to honor that great achievement, the three-pointed star company will be bringing a special edition package to the Geneva Motor Show in March, aimed specifically at the current SL models. They will be getting this so called SL 417 Mille Miglia package that is supposedly going to bring a touch of exclusivity to the range.

Available on the SL 400 and SL 500, it will include red front spoilers, red trim strips on the rear spoiler, brake calipers in the same color and red surrounds for the black wheels that measure 19 inches up front and 20 round the back.

As you probably noticed, the exterior will be done in special colors. The standard one is magnetite black metallic while two others complement the range: designo night black magno and designo cashmere white magno matte or the designo diamond white bright shiny paintwork.

Inside, AMG Line seats will welcome you along with a black center console with contrasting inlays and red edging. The headrests feature an embossed carbon structure and an ‘SL Mille Miglia’ label is also noticeable.

The steering wheel is wrapped in... what else but nappa leather in black and red while the rest of the cabin features a matte carbon finish of various trims.

As you can imagine, all these details will cost a pretty penny. The price tag of a regular SL 400 or SL 500 will go up by €14,800 for the former and €12,800 for the latter if you want to call your car ‘special’. Chip in the starting prices of €97,758 for the V6 and €120,963 for the V8-powered model and you get mind-numbing stickers for these Mille Miglia special edition roadsters.

Ordering books open on April 7.
