Mercedes-Benz Sales in September Set New All-Time Records in Every Market

Like a team that's leading by a considerable difference but does not want to start celebrating before the match is over, Mercedes-Benz is still playing it cool. But each month that passes makes it more and more obvious that 2016 is going to be the year the Stuttgart brand becomes the world's best-selling premium brand.

2015 was a close call, but Mercedes-Benz failed to maintain the rhythm throughout the final quarter, so in the end, BMW managed to hold on to its position. After the first half of 2016, though, the Daimler brand was already in front, and leading comfortably. With a few key new models launched, most important of which being the completely redesigned E-Class, Mercedes has now managed to break all of its sales records after the September figures came in.

The three-pointed start company succeeded to beating its previous best for monthly sales, thrid-quarter sales and year to date sales, and most of it was down to the 211,286 units sold in September. That number represents the highest ever recorded by Mercedes in a single month.

The success wasn't down to one particular market, but rather a very good turnout on all three key regions: Europe, Asia-Pacific, and NAFTA. The best-selling models were, as always, the SUVs, and the E-Class sedan. However, new models have also been recently introduced, further boosting the chances of turning 2016 into the brand's best ever year: the E-Class T-Modell, the long wheelbase E-Class sedan, the C-Class Cabrio, and the GLC Coupe.

Sales in Europe accounted for almost half of the September total with 98,877 units, proving its home market is still the most important one. That represents a 15 percent increase over the same month last year. An even greater rise in sales was registered in the Asia-Pacific region where the 72,760 units sold meant a 15.9 percent increase over the same period last year.

“In September, we scored a hat-trick – the best month with more than 200,000 units sold, the best quarter and the best first nine months of a year for Mercedes-Benz,” stated Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales. Some say they heard a few champagne bottles popping near the Mercedes-Benz headquarters in Stuttgart.
