It's not as expensive as the G65 AMG, but it still costs a helluva lot of dough. We're talking about the recently unveiled flagship of the S-Class Coupe lineup, the achingly gorgeous Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe.
For those €244,009 including VAT, you get the two-door version of the luxury barge Mercedes calls the S-Class. As you might imagine, the Coupe carries over a lot of visual cues inside & out, comfort features and gadgetry from its four-door sedan brother, but with added AMG spice.
Some highlight features that differentiate the two are the addition of 16-spoke ceramically polished AMG forged wheels measuring 20 inches in diameter. Rollers aside, the S65 AMG Coupe boasts chrome detailing here and there, V12 Biturbo lettering on the wings and two chromed twin tailpipes integrated into the rear apron.
Compared to the four-door S65 AMG, the Coupe is €12,000 more expensive, which translates to $16,346 or £9,552. But the two-door GT is that bit more opulent and extravagant, so you know which one we would go for. Under the hood you get a 6-liter AMG-built turbocharged V12, rated at 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm).
Mated to the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission that sends power only to the rear wheels, this uber coupe can do the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) run in a mere 4.1 seconds or two tenths faster than the V8-powered Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe. In Europe, top speed is limited at 155 mph (250 km/h), while North American customers get a slightly higher electronically-limited top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).
Magic Body Control suspension is offered as standard with the quite curious curve tilting function, while carbon ceramic brakes are an optional extra. Order books in Germany have opened today and first units will be delivered this coming September. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe will go on sale Stateside later this year.
